Learning with NEST

Every child with a NEST place has their own learning in our online Google Classroom, from primary to GCSE. Monday to Thursday they get a personal message from me, along with suggested activities, short recorded lessons and work they can choose to do, much of it made just for them and built around the things they love.

I’m online each day to support your child by message or Google Meet, I mark work promptly in an encouraging way, and I offer bespoke 1:1 tutoring too.

Together Days happen each week, in term time and the holidays. They are small, in-person social groups where we do fun activities around a learning theme in a calm, supported space, and a lovely chance to make friends.

Home-ed planning

If your child is not attending school and you need support in home education, I can help.

By creating a bespoke plan, even if I don’t deliver the work via our online class, I can help you navigate all the resources out there and give regular direction to help you.

Home education doesn’t have to replicate school, obviously. Learning can take many forms and can be very creative and interest focused.

But choosing the right resources and activity ideas can be a full-time task in itself! There are so many to choose from and it can be expensive. Also, what works at primary level then changes as they grow older! Why not utilise my extensive knowledge of all the resources out there, instead?

I can oversee learning and give you links to free resource platforms, offer progress assessments at set intervals if you’d like more formal markers, or mark work and give encouraging feedback with pointers for next steps.

If you need to write home education reports for the Local Authority I can help with this, ensuring you are confident you are legally providing a suitable education.

I am also happy to help you to source the right activities for your child to help expand their world if it has shrunk inwards.

Support for parents

Parents are most often the real experts in the needs of their own children. Sometimes it can feel lonely and sometimes you don’t feel listened to. I am here to help you get the right support.

I can offer advice on particular challenges or issues your child may be facing. It’s not always advice I can give personally, as I certainly do not claim to be an expert on everything, but it’s pointing you to the right books, to the most highly regarded experts, websites, organisations or groups where you can learn more. I have a wealth of knowledge about various ND issues and know who the leading experts are. I would be happy to help you to find the right support or strategies that may support you to support your child.

I am hear to listen. As parents, it’s really hard and exhausting managing our own worries about our children and their needs. It’s good to have someone to talk to who gets it; someone who can just be there when we need to express those feelings.

Other support for Parents:

  • Assistance in drafting official letters to schools, IDP support, DLA support
  • Support in communicating with local authorities and official documents.
  • Offering general advice and strategies for managing educational situations.
  • Navigating the ALN System:

Working together with you to help you to effectively navigate the Additional Learning Needs system in Wales and offering as much support as I can personally, but more importantly also in directing you to the right support that’s out there.

Exam Access Arrangements

As a qualified assessor, if appropriate I can assess for necessary exam access arrangements if a relationship is formed with particular exam centres.

As a tutor working with your child, I can give “normal way of working” evidence to exam centre access arrangement officers to provide for the reasonable adjustments that need to be made.

Self-esteem and confidence building

The support packages I offer have a strong focus on enhancing the mental health and self-esteem of children and young people, providing support that goes beyond academic progress.

Online support, wherever you live

You don’t have to live in Pembrokeshire to work with NEST. I offer online support to families wherever they live, including guidance, advice and help with ALN paperwork and letters, so official processes feel less overwhelming.
