Just to let you know…

I felt it was important to clarify a few points in case anyone might be wondering.

Firstly, I want to emphasise that I am not affiliated to any Local Authorities or schools. I am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) for data protection, and I assure you that I do not share any of your personal details.

It’s important to note that Nest is not associated with any religious or political groups, and we maintain a neutral stance on such matters.

I don’t hold strong opinions that home education is the best option for every child. Every child and family is unique, and circumstances can change. My own children have experienced both home education and various types of schools. For some, home education is a wonderful lifestyle choice; for others, it may feel like the only viable option. There may come a time when a child returns to a school or college setting if that suits their needs. Ultimately, what matters most is what is right for each child in their individual situation, and I believe parents and children are best placed to know that.

At the same time, I believe we need to create a new paradigm in education. The current system is failing too many children and young people, and an overhaul is long overdue. The increase in mental health challenges our children face highlight the need for change. I am involved with numerous groups and communities across the UK working towards alternative solutions.

I did not establish Nest with the intention of becoming wealthy. Once I earn a fair living wage, any additional profits will be reinvested into supporting local children and families. I am incredibly grateful for my family’s support, as they understand how much this work matters.

I chose not to register as a Community Interest Company because I felt that the associated paperwork and bureaucracy would detract from my core mission. Having dealt with cumbersome paperwork in the past, I was determined to focus on supporting children rather than being bogged down in administrative tasks and pursuing funding that was unlikely to materialise.

You cannot quantify in spreadsheets the transformation of a previously self-harming child who, once withdrawn, is now slowly beginning to engage with others. I refuse to accept any bureaucratic system that demands formal assessments in such situations or assigns time scales or monetary values to these deeply personal journeys.

Essentially, I operate with the aim of eventually providing a free service to local families, while currently offering a comparatively affordable service that I believe delivers significant value.

I am passionate about addressing the injustice that only children from families who can afford private school fees, assessments, or legal representation receive the support they need to feel safe and valued. I want to see this change.

I hold an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, as well as Level 3 Paediatric First Aid and Level 3 First Aid at Work qualifications. I also ensure that my safeguarding training is current. Additionally, I am a member of the Education Workforce Council and have comprehensive liability insurance as a tutor and group facilitator, which includes coverage for premises, along with car insurance for transporting children, if necessary.

In the past, I was a member of the British Psychological Society as an assessor. However, I chose not to renew my membership due to the high fees, opting instead to invest in craft supplies for Nest! While my membership has lapsed, my qualifications remain valid.

For more information about my qualifications and experience, please visit the “About Me” section of my website, where you can view all my professional qualifications and experience.

Nest has a safeguarding policy in place, and additional policies are available upon request. I want to assure you that any volunteers working with Nest have a DBS check and are trusted individuals known to me.

I hope this doesn’t come across as a bit of a soapbox rant! I simply wanted to share more about my values and mission. If you resonate with any of these sentiments, please feel free to reach out for a chat or to connect.
